UW-Fond du Lac faculty member is Showcase Winner at service learning symposium

Fond du Lac, Wis.—Patricia Eby, UW-Fond du Lac associate dean and music professor, was a Showcase Winner at the recent Service Learning Faculty Symposium held at Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Eby’s service learning showcase presentation was entitled “Explorations in Music: University Students and Senior Citizens.” She received a $500 award.

This service learning project took place at Woodlands Senior Park in Fond du Lac where ten members of UW-Fond du Lac’s vocal jazz ensemble U-FiDeLity set up four sessions to explore music with residents of the facility. The sessions began with a general exploration of music and led to a senior-coached performance.

Service learning takes students beyond the classroom and out into the community. It is a teaching and learning method that expands students understanding of course material while at the same time giving back to the community through service.
