This young quintet will perform "The Sound of
Love" a program of
secular vocal music featuring love songs
throughout the eras. Representative composers
include 16th century madrigalist Gesualdo,
impressionist Debussy, romanticist Elgar as well
as contemporary arrangements by Lennon/McCartney
and Phil Collins. The group was founded in 1999
by former members of the St. Thomas Boys’ Choir
and later supplemented by soprano Anja Lipfert.
“Their
recipe for success is simple - a joy in singing
and complete vocal professionalism,” said
Patricia Eby,
UW-Fond du Lac associate dean and music
professor.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $9 for area
students and can be purchased in advance at the
UW-Fond du Lac Business Office or by phone at
(920) 906-6350. Tickets purchased at the door
are $2 more. All seating is reserved. UW-Fond du
Lac students can attend the concert for free.
An active concert schedule has already led
the Calmus Ensemble to all parts of Germany, as
well as to most European countries and the
United States. The group has also participated
in renowned music festivals such as the
Bach-Festival Leipzig, the Dresdner
Musikfestspiele, the Kultursommer
Rheinland-Pfalz, the International a cappella
Festival Hannover and the Schleswig-Holstein-Musikfestival.
They have received many well-known awards. At
the 4th International Robert Schumann Choral
Competition they took first place, just as they
did in the finale of the national a cappella
competition Jugend Kulturell (Cultural Youth),
the International Contest for Vocal Ensembles in
Tampere, Finland (June 2005) and the 37th Tolosa
Choral Contest in Tolosa, Spain (October 2005).
The newspaper “Sueddeutsche Zeitung” praised
their “precision, exceptional fine-tuned pitch,
and never-ending expressiveness.”
The “Leipziger Volkszeitung” stated simply
that their “a cappella sound is very
impressive.”
Members of the Calmus Ensemble are Anja
Lipfert, soprano; Sebastian Krause,
countertenor; Tobias Pöche, tenor; Ludwig Böhme,
baritone; Joe Roesler, bass.
This event is part of the UW-Fond du Lac
