to discuss the history and legacy of the
Negro Baseball Leagues on Feb. 26 at UW-Fond
du Lac
In recognition of Black History Month, the

“The Negro Baseball Leagues – An American
Legacy” by Byron Motley at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 26
in the Large Group Instruction Room at the
University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac, 400
University Dr.
He will also be presenting this lecture at
the

Byron Motley heard many tales about the Negro
Baseball Leagues from his father, Bob Motley,
who umpired in the leagues for over a decade.
The stories that Byron shares with the audience
reflect a significant slice of social history as
well as how the Negro Leagues impacted the
national pastime when our nations’ society was
still segregated.
The younger Motley is co-author of his
father’s memoir “Ruling Over Monarchs, Giants &
Stars: Umpiring in the Negro Leagues & Beyond”
which chronicles his father’s journey of growing
up in segregated America, becoming one of the
first African-American Marines, and his
experiences in Negro baseball.
A multi-talented artist from Los Angeles,
Byron is also a singer/songwriter. As a singer
he has performed and recorded with Natalie Cole,
Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Melissa Ethridge,
Barry Manilow and many more including several
American Idol winners. He has performed on
Broadway and lent his vocal talents to movie
soundtracks.
His appearance at UW-Fond du Lac is sponsored
by the Student Activities Committee with
additional support from the Student Life and
Interest Committee and
UW-Fond du
Lac Foundation. For more information call
