Career Appreciation Leads Retired Professor to
Fund Science Scholarship

“This campus has been good tome, and I’d like to be good toit,” said recently retired AssociateProfessor of Physics/AstronomyJohn “Jack” Heil, Ph.D., of hisdecision to endow a scholarshipfor students in the sciences atUW-Fond du Lac.

“I thought about it long ago, andlooked forward to it at retirement,”he continued, elaboratingon his vision. When thescholarship fund reaches its fullendowment of $10,000 under themanagement of the UW-Fond duLac Foundation, annual amountswill then be available to studentspursuing chemistry, biology, physics,astronomy and mathematics.“It seemed natural to me to do it.We need to encourage more studentsto get into the sciences, anda scholarship may make it a littlebit easier. Most people look onthe sciences as difficult, and if it isalso financially difficult that maybe the clincher that stops them.”
